May 19th Updates: Mask Restriction Eased for Outdoor Activities

In consultation with the City's Department of Public Health, SPS will amend its current mask policy to allow students to be without a mask outside of the school building (i.e. arrival, dismissal, recess).  Student athletes who play sports outdoors will be allowed to play sports without wearing a mask. Also, students may now share classroom materials.  These changes are effective as of May 20th  and in accordance with state health guidelines. All other SPS  COVID-related precautions and procedures remain in effect. Anyone who chooses to continue wearing a mask due to any variety of personal reasons may freely do so. SPS will continue to be in close communication with the City's Department of Public Health and make any adjustments to these amendments as advised, which will be informed by the city's level of risk among other factors.

ATTENTION families of students 18 years of age and older:  A Moderna walk-in vaccination clinic will take place Saturday, May 22nd at Boland Elementary School from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for students aged 18 years and older. Registration is not required but is available at  https://www.maimmunizations.org/appointment/en/reg/3061305892. Students or families with questions may contact their school nurse. Vaccination is voluntary.

May 17th Set as High School Return

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education today established May 17th as the return to school date for high school 5-days-per week, in-person learning. Families may choose to remain remote for the rest of the year or switch to in-person learning on May 17th. High schools will be reaching out directly to families to learn of their choice.  For further information on in-person learning protocols and practices for high school students as well as information about health and safety protocols in place for in-person learning, please continue scrolling down the page.

Access to Schools During In-Person Learning

Visitors to schools will be greatly restricted during in-person learning, this includes parents and guardians. However, please know that parental engagement is still possible and strongly encouraged. Schools will use Zoom or other teleconference means in place of person-to-person visits to schools by parents or guardians. In the rare occasion that a parental or guardian visit to the school is required, it will be by appointment only. This district wide protocol of minimizing the number of visitors in a school is another layer of protection against COVID transmission for students and staff.

Find out how schools, classrooms and bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected when teachers and staff return.
